In episode 149 of the Touch Arcade show, they talk a little about Street Flapper. I must say, it’s a bit of a surreal feeling when you hear other people tell each other a secret code for a game you made.
So, I bring this up because Eli said he suspected the hitboxes were the same for every character. I thought that this might also be what others think, so I’ll provide some evidence here that shows how different they all really are.
Make sure you look at all the images… there’s a few surprises at the end :).
I think Ryu is a little underrated by many players. He’s got one of the smallest hitboxes in the whole game (actually smaller than Chun Li’s!). I feel having a good run with Ryu is most satisfying compared with others.
Honda’s hitbox is quite nice considering his sprite size, but note that it does get bigger when he’s falling.
Most already know about Guile’s invincibility during the strike of the flash kick. So I thought I should show you a little before that point.
One of the best moves in Street Fighter actually ends up not so good for Street Flapper. Seems the vertical movement of the attack isn’t as optimal for a side scroller. So I shortened his hitbox height to help him somewhat.
The current most played character, and for good reason – she’s very easy to use!
Blanka is the only character who doesn’t have any invincible frames
Sagat’s Tiger Knee was actually the very first attack I implemented in the game…
… But damn! Those long legs!
Bison (Vega in Japan) has a nice small hitbox, and similar to Akuma he has quite a lot of invincible frames.
The dive kick has a fairly large hitbox, but Akuma also has the most invincible frames compared to any character!
Balrog (M.Bison in Japan) is one of 3 new characters in an upcoming update!
Vega (Balrog in Japan) is another upcoming character. He’s the only character with a hitbox that isn’t vertically/horizontally aligned! Testers are saying this makes him the new Chun Li!
Dan is the 3rd new character in the upcoming update. And… wow, look at the size of that hitbox! Make sure you have the sound on when you use him.
